Birth and Childhood: She was born on January 1, 1981, in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, but was raised from infancy by her paternal grandparents in the city of La Romana.

Discovery of Her Talent: At age 17, while organizing a choir for her high school graduation, a backing musician noticed her incredible vocal potential. He assured her she had a future in singing and offered her her first formal job.
