Allendy — Agapito Decena Geraldo, born in Vicente Noble, Barahona, on 16 September 1979 — is a Dominican bachata singer. He has been recording since 1998, spent the middle of his career in Spain, and in 2024 won the Soberano for bachata of the year.

Early years and formation

He wanted to sing from the start. At ten he put together a group of his own, La Nueva Generación, playing tambora and singing lead in it. At twelve he made his debut as a bachatero at a parish in Vicente Noble. As his name spread through the southwest he joined Las Estrellas del Amargue, which is where the apprenticeship happened.

Cholo Brenes and the first records

In 1998 the producer Cholo Brenes told the writer Jandy Félix that he wanted to make a bachata record. Félix went and found Allendy, who was eighteen, and Brenes shaped him into a professional.

That first production, Un Corazón, went out through BMG and carried Murió un Corazón, Elena and Elizabeth. It was enough for Discomania to sign him.

Spain

The Discomania record — Te Mal Informaron, Mal de Amor, Mamá, Mujer Barata — broke in 2002 across the Dominican Republic, the United States and, unexpectedly, Europe. Te Mal Informaron, written by José Lucía Roa Sánchez, was the one that did it.

He moved to Spain on the back of it and stayed. He took singing lessons in Barcelona, worked the Spanish circuit, and did not come home until the end of 2009, when he returned to the Dominican Republic to build the project again.

Me Dio Pa’ Llamarte

On 12 March 2024 he won the Premios Soberano for bachata of the year with Me Dio Pa’ Llamarte, written by César David Castro, CDK. Amiga y Amante, Todo Terminó Así and Soy Como Quise Ser belong to the same recent run, and Quédate Con Ella he cut with El Varón de la Bachata for the album Yo Te Amo.
