Casi Grupo is a Dominican worship ensemble from Santo Domingo that sings a cappella. It began on 25 November 2019 and belongs to the Seventh-day Adventist church, and its singers are Efraín Alejandro Sosa, Onice De La Cruz, Starling Rodríguez, Ashley Aquino and Cristy Carvajal.

Voices and nothing else

The absence of instruments is the whole point. Everything a band would supply — the harmonic bed, the pulse, the counter-lines — has to be sung, so the arrangement is not a setting for the song but the song itself. Very little Dominican Christian music is made this way.

What they sing

The catalogue is mostly other people’s songs, chosen widely. They have taken Elevation Worship’s Why into Spanish as ¿Por Qué?, sung Marcos Vidal’s Cara a Cara, covered the Brazilian group Preto no Branco with Nada Explica a Dios, and recorded Pude Volver by Génesis Colón. Their range runs past worship altogether: Carol of the Bells sits in the same list as Elvis Presley’s Can’t Help Falling in Love.

Their own songs include Amor Eterno, Padre de Amor, Espíritu Santo, Profundo Amor and Motivo Real. Amor Eterno, from 2023, is the one that has travelled furthest by a wide margin. They have also sung Gloria a Dios with Junior Kelly Marchena and Maravilloso with Grupo Elegidos.

Clásicos

In August 2026 they released Clásicos, six traditional hymns — Ven Conmigo a Aquel Hogar, A Jesús Entrega Todo, Hoy Ante Ti, ¿Quieres Ser Salvo De Toda Maldad? among them. The turn surprised their own audience; the first comment under the announcement asks whether it is really true that they are doing traditional music now.

Outside the church

For a group formed inside a denomination, they have been unusually visible on national television. Color Visión, Esta Noche Mariasela, Telesistema 11 and Matutino 91 have all had them on, and the Adventist network Nuevo Tiempo interviewed them for Conexión Musical. Diario Libre covered the piece they sang for 27 February, Dominican independence day. They perform in Adventist congregations around the country, including at the Universidad Adventista Dominicana.
