Daniel Arias, who records as Daniel Arias Mambo Trueno, is a Dominican merengue típico singer and songwriter, and the brother of Raquel Arias.

No Me Olvides Corazón

He wrote the song his sister is best known for. No Me Olvides Corazón appeared on her 1998 album Sigue Encendía, did respectable business at the time, and then did something songs rarely do: it came back. In 2016, eighteen years after it was cut, it returned to Dominican radio and to neighbourhood parties, and is now better known by its opening line, ¿Por qué te fuiste dulce amor?

Almost nothing in the written record of Dominican music credits the person who wrote a típico standard. The performer is remembered and the author is not. In this case the author is the singer’s brother, and the family is the reason the credit survived at all.

His own records

Tus Celos and Fue un Sueño both arrived in 2020, and En Vivo, Vol. 1 followed in 2024. La Cebolla, from the second album, is his most heard; Muros y Barreras belongs to the same run, and the live record carries Ella No Es Chiflera and Cuanto Me Gustas.

A típico family

The Arias siblings came out of a household where the accordion was ordinary. Their father, grandparents and uncles all played it, and the parties happened in the house. That is the usual apprenticeship in merengue típico: the instrument is present the way furniture is, and the music is learned before anyone decides to make a career of it.
