Diego Jaar is a Dominican singer-songwriter, pianist, and producer born in San Juan, Puerto Rico, to Dominican parents. He writes Caribbean pop with poetic, everyday Dominican lyrics, accompanies himself at the piano, and became widely known after his run on «Dominicana's Got Talent» in 2020. He has since opened concerts in Santo Domingo for Kany García, Beret, and Ed Sheeran.

Origins and training

Jaar was born in San Juan and raised in the Dominican Republic. He began studying piano at about age three and trained at a conservatory. His singing voice emerged when he took part in the Dominican staging of «High School Musical», and around 2010 he formed the Latin rock band «Sahara». He studied advertising with a specialization in production and later pursued film studies in Barcelona.

Dominicana's Got Talent

In 2020 he competed in the second season of «Dominicana's Got Talent», performing at the piano with songs he wrote himself. The theatre producer Waddys Jáquez gave him the golden buzzer for «Agridulce», and Jaar went on to reach the finals.

Recordings

He released the album «Sie7e» in 2021 and the singles «Ojos Claros» and «Tal Vez» that year. His album «Mi Libreta» (2022) has seven songs and was produced by Allan Leschhorn, with arrangements by Ambiorix Francisco and Jaar. Its songs move between humor, social commentary, and romance: «El Montro» is aimed at corruption, «El Sueño» is a bolero, and the album also includes «La Negra», «La de Amor», «La Yola», «La Bruja», and «El Niño».

Later releases include «Moriviví» (2024), «Buen Día» and «Cheilon» (2025), the EP «Hisopo #15» (2025), and «Dando'aco <3» (2026). His album «Dominismo» is scheduled for release on 29 September 2026, with a launch concert the night before.

Live performance

In February 2024 Jaar opened for Kany García at the Teatro Nacional in Santo Domingo, and in May 2026 he was the opening act for Beret's first Dominican concert at Hard Rock Café Santo Domingo, where he performed «Tú me quedas bien» with Techy Fatule, premiered «Muela», and closed with «Agridulce». Days later, on 9 May 2026, he opened Ed Sheeran's concert at the Estadio Quisqueya, promoted by SD Concerts, playing «Moriviví» and «El Montro».

Style and influences

Jaar names Vicente García and Juan Luis Guerra among his inspirations. His writing turns to Dominican identity and daily life, with wordplay and humor set against piano-driven melodies, falsetto, and melisma, a style the press describes as tropical and poetic.

Legacy

Jaar is part of a generation of Dominican singer-songwriters who reached wide audiences through television and then opened stadium and theatre concerts for international artists, keeping the piano and Dominican vernacular at the center of the song.
