Dionis K Da Uno is the stage name of Dionis Rivas, a Dominican singer based in the United States who bills himself as the leader of merengue romántico urbano — romantic merengue fused with urban mambo. By his own account he comes from a family of musicians and began studying piano and music reading at eleven at the Conservatorio Nacional de Música in Santo Domingo, before private academies and, eventually, popular music; that training is carried by his artist bio, and it shows in a catalog he largely writes and arranges around his own orchestra.
The Colombia breakthrough
His documented singles begin in 2019 with «No Te Puedo Ver», but the record that changed his scale came in 2020: «Te Falta el Amor», his own composition, recorded with Ramón Orlando — the maestro himself as guest — with arrangements by Moisés Sánchez. The song opened Colombia to him, and Colombia answered with the genre's hardest jury: at the Festival de Orquestas of the Carnaval de Barranquilla he won the Congo de Oro in 2022, and won it again in 2024. The same years filled his album «INÉDITOS», released on his own K-DA UNO Music label, which collects the era: «Te Falta el Amor», «Mendigo de Amor», a «Baile en la Calle» with Ramón Orlando billed as a tribute to Cuco Valoy, and a merengue version of «Color Esperanza» recorded with Sin Fronteras.
Silvio Mora and the Christmas single
Dominican audiences met him in part through the collaboration that closed 2022: «Vamos a Hacer Un Can», his own composition, re-cut as a Christmas version with Silvio Mora as featured guest — the host whose channel had introduced him to the diaspora audience that now follows him.
The bachata turn
In 2025 he turned toward bachata. «Desde Hoy», written and arranged by Francis Bencosme, charted in Colombia, and «Páginas del Alma» — released as a single in November 2025 — became his signature song in the genre, with his own chart posts placing it at number one on Dominican radio for three consecutive weeks in 2026. A singer who won Barranquilla twice with merengue was suddenly competing, in bachata, with the biggest names of the moment.
Legacy
Dionis K Da Uno's career is a diaspora construction: Dominican merengue written, sung and self-released from the United States, crowned twice in Barranquilla, and then deliberately re-aimed at bachata once the merengue ground was won. Whether the second act matches the first is still being decided on the charts — but the two Congo de Oro already fix his name in the short list of Dominican orchestras that Colombia's carnival certified as its own.
