Épico Gelato is a Dominican rapper and songwriter working in trap and Latin rap. He runs with several crews at once and most of his catalogue is collaborative.

The crews

He bills himself under four banners together — Los Renuentes, Familia Gambino, Gelato Gang and Mafia Boyz — and that is the shape of the work rather than a pose. Familia Gambino releases the records; Los Renuentes is the project name on some of them.

The records

Por Mi Música, made with Guariboa, is the one that reached furthest. Topo la Máskara produced it and Stay RD shot the video, and the description he put on it thanks God for the chance and for being Dominican before it thanks anybody else.

Por Mi Mama he cut with Seba Glock; Otro Día Más with Yankee 017 and D1ECISIE7E; Ansiedad with 70Bow. The pattern holds across the catalogue: he works inside a circle of Dominican urban artists rather than alone, and the features run both ways.

Where he sits

The classification services file him under dembow, the Dominican press does not cover him at all, and his own accounts call him a rap and trap artist. All three are partly right, which is the ordinary condition of an urban artist working outside the label system.
