Biography

Indhira Martínez García, who records as Indhira, is a Dominican singer, songwriter and belly dancer, the daughter of the singer Vickiana and the musician and artist manager Luis Martínez Diloné.

Early years

She began performing as a child, forming a trio with her mother and her sister Sahira to sing «Juntos Otra Vez» at the concert «Vickiana en Grande» before about 25,000 people at the Estadio Olímpico in Santo Domingo. She worked as a model and belly dancer, directed the first Concurso Internacional de Belly Dance and taught the discipline, and in 2014 was still coordinating the contest, then in its fifth edition at the Hotel Dominican Beach in Bávaro. By then she had also finished her law degree.

Debut and collaborations

She presented her debut in August 2006 at El Maunaloa, with «Papito Guáyame», a reggaeton by Daddy Boy, «Asesina», which she wrote herself, and «Si Te Vas», a ballad by Edgar López, on a record with arrangements by Pachy Carrasco, Misael Mañón, Rudy Ventura and others. Her work runs through reggaeton, hip hop, bachata and merengue, including «Llévate la Cama pa' la Calle» with Frank Reyes, a collaboration with Don Miguelo, and one with Papi Sánchez.

With Vickiana

In 2018 mother and daughter recorded «Que Sufra, Que Chupe y Que Llore», a bachata adaptation of a song by the Colombian vallenato composer Iván Calderón, arranged by Luis Carlos Hernández Vega. That year Indhira also presented a bachata tribute to Olga Lara with «Ya Se Acabó» and to Vickiana with «Te Invito». She has sung a tribute to Edith Piaf at the dinner-concert of the Cámara de Comercio Franco-Dominicana at the Hotel Intercontinental in Santo Domingo, and sings in French and Italian as well as Spanish.

Recent work

In December 2020 she released the Christmas song «El Cañonazo», which she wrote and Juan Isaac Ramírez Valdez, «Tiburón», produced, in an urban style. Her catalogue also includes «Mi Libertad», «Me Vas a Extrañar» and «Lo Truco» with La Cobra, produced by Rudy Ventura.
