Olga Nova is a Dominican evangelical singer whose recorded catalogue reaches back to 1990. She released a run of albums through the cassette era, and her material has since been reissued to streaming platforms and to a YouTube channel she uses for songs, preaching and prayer alike.
The cassette albums
Three albums are dated 1990 — Mi Devocional, Hasta el Día de Hoy and De Tu Lado — followed by the compilation Lo Más Escuchado de Olga Nova in 1995. El Candidato, her best-known record, circulated as Volume 3 on cassette; Súplica followed, and an EP titled A los Pies de Jesús appeared in 2020.
The dating of her work is inconsistent across sources. El Candidato is listed as a 2001 album while its individual tracks carry 1993, and Súplica is listed as 2008 with tracks dated 1995 — the pattern left behind when cassette-era recordings are re-registered for digital distribution years later. The recording dates are almost certainly the earlier ones.
A repertoire of Bible narratives
What distinguishes Nova's songbook is its subject matter. Where most worship writing works in the first person — praise, petition, devotion — hers repeatedly takes specific scriptural episodes and sets them to music. Ananías y Safira draws on the couple struck down in Acts 5 for lying about their offering; Acán on the man stoned in Joshua for taking forbidden plunder; Entra al Arca on Noah; 24 Ancianos on the elders of Revelation.
Alongside these sit El Candidato, El Anciano, Barca a la Deriva, La Noche Se Acerca, Volverá, Ya No Más Sacrificio, Inmerecida, Señor Cuando Tú Pasas, Como Siervo Inútil, No Dudéis, Cadenas and A los Pies de Jesús. It is a preacher's repertoire more than a worship leader's — songs that teach and warn rather than exhort.
The channel
Nova's YouTube channel holds 46 videos, and mixes her recordings with preaching, prayer and interviews, including conversations on health. The audience is small; the catalogue behind it is not.
What did not survive
Almost nothing about Nova has been documented outside her own channels and her streaming catalogue: no birth date, no birthplace, no press coverage, no account of how she began. That silence is itself the point. She recorded at least six albums before Dominican Christian music had an industry to write about it, and the reason her work survives at all is that someone uploaded the cassettes.
