Rando Camasta Cueto, professionally known as Rando and also as Rando Camasta Jr., is a Dominican singer, songwriter and guitarist from La Romana. The son of singer and arranger Rando Camasta, he has developed an independent musical identity blending soul, funk and pop with Caribbean rhythms. His work spans solo recordings, collaborations within the Dominican independent scene and performances with the Christian rock band «Metanoia».
Early development
He grew up spending time in recording studios with his father, who taught him his first guitar chords. In 2003 he joined the original lineup of «Zoom». His single «Presiento» was selected among Radio Listín’s 25 highlighted local songs of 2006. In 2007 the band was selected to perform at events preceding MTV’s Latin American awards.
In 2010 he took part in «El Rocksario», a tribute by Dominican rock musicians to Los Hermanos Rosario. His live career also included the «Dominican Republic Jazz Festival» in Cabarete. Alongside his solo work, he became a guitarist and vocalist with «Metanoia» and collaborated with Gnómico and producer Joel Berrido, known as Macrofunk.
Recordings and collaborations
His 2012 EP «Santo Domingo de Fiesta» was produced by Joel Berrido, with horn arrangements by his father. Its songs include «Dominicana Bonita», «Amante Necio Loco», «Con Tu Amor», «Santo Domingo de Fiesta», «Simplemente» and «2step»; Alfred Spin appears on two tracks. The project was presented as his third EP.
He presented the live-recorded «Caribe Pop» in 2016. A July 2018 performance for «Retajila» featured «La indicada», «Si te vas», «Fuego en mi cama» and «Adicto», with Camasta Cueto credited for words and music, vocals and guitar. «Sesiones Retajila, Vol. 1» reached streaming services in 2019, alongside the singles «Detener el Tiempo» and «Sentido Real (Saciando Mi Sed)».
Released in 2020, «Trance» brought further combinations of soul, bolero, funk, bachata and merengue. Its collaborators include Joel Berrido, Adolfo Guerrero, Clara González and JJ Sánchez; Cheo Pardo contributed a remix of «Detener el tiempo». Rando followed it with «Azúca» in 2021 and «Qué Pasará» in April 2026. His guest appearances also include Macrofunk’s EPs «Club Domingo» and «Malamaña».
Legacy
His work connects a family musical background with the Dominican alternative scene. Songwriting, guitar and vocals anchor a repertoire about love and everyday experience, drawing on Caribbean music, soul and pop.
