Ronald Romero is a Dominican Catholic singer-songwriter, born on 13 November in Santo Domingo. He has released two albums, founded a ministry, and since 2012 has sung with the group DTB.

Selah

He came up through parish music. From 2001 he gave himself to youth evangelisation and to singing, and he did it inside the Selah music service of the Ministerio de Evangelización Nuevas Fuerzas, at the Parroquia Divina Providencia. In 2003 he took part in the Academia del Festival David, and it was there that he decided to record.

Como la Brisa

The first album came in 2004, and the players on it are the striking part. Guy Frómeta, Juan Francisco Ordóñez and Isaac Leclerc are among the most accomplished musicians in the country, and they are not who a first Catholic record by an unknown singer would normally get.

Mi Mejor Canción

The second arrived in February 2010 and was presented at the Hard Rock Café in Santo Domingo. Twelve unreleased songs, some his and some by other writers, moving between pop rock and ballad. Virgilio Junior Féliz produced it — the first of many things the two would make together — with arrangements by Claudia Gil, David Holguín and Féliz himself, and Ezequiel Francisco, Junior Cabrera and Robert Susana playing.

He described it as a turn toward something more interior, and as a call to the Church to set aside what distracts it. Lápiz y Papel and Nada Puedo are the songs from it that travelled; Nada Puedo is still the most listened to thing he has recorded.

On television

He sang Lápiz y Papel and Maravilloso on Divertido con Jochy, which is national television rather than a religious programme, and an unusual place for Dominican Catholic music to turn up. He has also played the Hosanna, Festival Shemá and Ruta 7 concerts and the youth Easter gatherings, and in 2015 sang Cordero de Dios at the Festival de la Canción Católica Dominicana with Jennie Betances, Ester Hernández and Gustavo Oliva.

Grupo DTB

In 2012 he and several long-standing collaborators formed Grupo DTB, and much of his work since has been theirs rather than his alone. Jennie Betances, Claudia Gil and Virgilio Féliz Junior are in it — Gil and Féliz having already arranged and produced his 2010 album. The group has kept releasing: Jesús, Lléname, El Señor Te Bendiga, an album in 2017, and Ha Nacido Dios at the end of 2025.

Beyond the songs

Music is one part of what he does. In 2008 he became director of the Ministerio de Evangelización Nueva Esperanza and coordinator of Alpha International in the Dominican Republic, and he later founded the ministry Evangelización Activa. He preaches and teaches as much as he sings. He has lived in Tennessee for some years, and that is where the work happens now: in Spanish-speaking parishes across the state, among them Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe in Nashville, where Grupo DTB has travelled to sing with him.
