Biography
Stephanie Fuentes Díaz, known professionally as SNENiE, is a Dominican singer-songwriter and creative director born in Santo Domingo on 18 March 1997. Her music sits between indie pop, folk, and soul, built around layered vocals and guitar, and she has worked from Mexico since 2022 while continuing to perform in the Dominican Republic.
Beginnings
SNENiE has sung since childhood, in school talent shows and family settings, though she did not consider music a formal career and never studied it. She graduated in industrial design in 2021. Her first single, «Florecer», was released independently on 14 December 2018, followed by «Papel» in May 2019. In 2019 she competed in «Dominicana's Got Talent» with original songs, reaching the semifinals, and covered Vicente García's «Ahí Ahí» on the programme; she also headlined more than ten shows that year, and has named a Rosalía concert she attended in 2019 as the moment she felt an artist could be a real person rather than a product.
«Aunque no lo parezca» and «Perla Rosa»
Her debut EP, «Aunque no lo parezca», appeared in 2020, led by the single «Nubes», produced by Gian Rojas. She recorded the EP at home, in her closet, acting as her own engineer, a way of working she says lets her concentrate and build her own vocal harmonies. In December 2020 she performed in the ASCAP Latin Acoustic Sounds «Adiós 2020» showcase, and in October 2022 Rolling Stone included her in a feature on the Dominican indie scene.
Her first album, «Perla Rosa», was recorded in 2021 in a house in the mountains and released in the summer of 2023. It moves between folk and soul and deals with vulnerability and imperfection.
Mexico and touring
In the summer of 2022 SNENiE moved to Mexico without having visited beforehand, following friends in the music scene, among them Alex Ferreira, and has said her project took off after she left. She has accompanied Alex Ferreira, Vicente García, and Vanessa Zamora on tour in Mexico, and opened two Juan Luis Guerra concerts there after writing directly to his management when he returned to Mexico after about ten years. She also opened the closing show of Camilo's «De adentro pa afuera» tour. According to her official biography, she played more than twenty dates in Mexico, the Dominican Republic, and the United States in 2024, and in 2025 appeared at the Isle of Light festival, in San Juan for the first time, and in Barcelona and Madrid.
Recognition
In 2024 she was nominated for New Alternative Music Artist at the Premios Soberano. She has said she deliberately tries to make her Dominican identity visible in her music without being literal about it, and she designs the visual side of her project herself, work she has begun to offer to other artists as a creative director.
In April 2026 she said she was finishing a second album, expected later that year, and in March 2026 she released a single with Bebo Dumont.
Legacy
SNENiE is one of the Dominican independent artists who have built an audience by releasing music on their own terms and touring abroad, and her move to Mexico has become part of the discussion of how Dominican artists reach wider markets. She resists being placed in a single genre, and calls her approach simply music made with love.
