Wilmelia — Wilmelia Soto — is a Dominican worship singer and composer. She writes her own material, won a national composers’ competition before releasing anything, and has kept a small and deliberate catalogue since.

Formation

She sings with the praise and worship team of the Iglesia Remanso de Dios, in Santo Domingo Oeste, pastored by Tomás and Arabellis Rodríguez. The congregation is where the work comes from: she is a worship leader there first and a recording artist second, which is the ordinary shape of a Dominican worship career and the part of it that rarely gets written down.

IMPULSO 2020 and Mi Refugio

She won first place in the IMPULSO 2020 competition for composers with Mi Refugio. The song became her first single, released at the start of 2021 — an unusual order of events, in that the writing was recognised before the singing was.

Eres Santo

Eres Santo came out on 2 December 2021 and is by a wide margin the most heard thing she has recorded. She built it from Isaiah 6:3, the verse in which the seraphim call out that the Lord is holy, and the song keeps the shape of that repetition.

The record was produced and arranged by Zammy Tolentino, mixed by Ismael Ovalle and mastered by Jorge Santos at Omega Mastering Studio. Samuel Salas directed the video for Círculo Armónico.

Perfecto Amor and the covers

Perfecto Amor followed with the same team behind it — Tolentino producing, Ovalle mixing, Santos mastering, Salas directing and Alexis Novas on artwork — and her own name in the composition credit.

Most of what she has posted since is covers of congregational repertoire: A Ti Sea la Gloria, Cristo Yo Te Amo, Atrae Mi Corazón, Eres Mi Respirar, Digno Es el Señor. A medley of Cristo Yo Te Amo, Al Alto y Sublime and Majestad arrived in 2026. The covers are the same songs she would lead on a Sunday, which is the point of them.
