Yohely Figueroa Restituyo is a young Dominican artist born in 1995 in Santo Domingo who is developing her artistic identity within the contemporary Dominican popular music scene. Growing up in the capital during a period of remarkable creative energy in Dominican music — from the global rise of dembow to the continued international success of bachata — she has formed her musical sensibilities in an environment rich with possibility and precedent. Her work in progress reflects the aspirations of a generation of young Dominican artists who have grown up with the music of their country being celebrated and consumed globally, and who are now adding their own voices to that conversation. Figueroa Restituyo represents the ongoing renewal of Dominican musical talent.
