Adalgisa Pantaleón, born Ramona Adalgisa Pantaleón Fernández on November 10, 1954, in San Francisco de Macorís, is a Dominican singer, actress and writer. She emerged at the 1971 «Festival de la Voz», spent more than two decades singing with «4.40» led by Juan Luis Guerra, and released her first solo CD, «Al son del sol», in 2003.

Early years and first stage appearances

Pantaleón grew up singing with her mother and in school and church choirs in San Francisco de Macorís. At sixteen she represented the city in the 1971 «Festival de la Voz», organized by Rafael Solano, and placed third. Solano then supported her first professional appearances; her solo career was already under way before she joined «4.40».

Years with «4.40»

She joined Juan Luis Guerra's «4.40» in 1989 and remained one of its singers for more than two decades. Her voice is heard on «Como abeja al panal», from «Bachata Rosa» (1990). These were group recordings and performances, a major part of her career but distinct from albums released under her own name.

Her solo album and later recordings

In 2003 Pantaleón presented «Al son del sol», described by contemporary Dominican press as her first solo CD. Produced by Jorge Taveras for «Infovox», the album moves among son, bolero and other Caribbean rhythms. It includes «Qué sería de mí», written for her by Juan Luis Guerra. In 2026 she and Frank Ceara presented the music video for «La receta perfecta», a bachata he wrote and included on his album «El saborcito de tu amor».

Writing, acting and recognition

Pantaleón published the poetry collection «Mi silencio roto» in 1995. She played María in the 1997 film «Nueba Yol III: Bajo la nueva ley» and received a 1998 «Premio ACE» for her performance. Her work has also included television and theatre. In 2023 the Dominican government awarded her the «Medalla al Mérito de la Mujer Dominicana» in the cultural and artistic category.

Legacy

Her documented career extends from the Dominican singing contests of the early 1970s to the international repertoire of «4.40», a solo album rooted in Caribbean music, and work in literature and film. The 2023 national award recognized that sustained contribution across artistic forms.
