Biography

Musicólogo the Libro — Ygnacio Alberto Santiago, born in Loma de Cabrera, Dajabón, on 21 December 1987 — is a Dominican rapper, dembow artist and songwriter. His «Limonada coco», remixed with Lápiz Conciente, soundtracked Major League Baseball’s 2019 postseason campaign; in 2021 he was one of the four coaches of the first season of «The Voice Dominicana»; and in 2026 he released «El Jaguar», an album built on Jamaican reggae.

The delivery boy with headphones

He grew up wanting to be a big-league baseball player and practised in a neighbourhood league, while rapping in his spare time — his plan B, as he put it. As a teenager he delivered orders for a corner shop in Buenos Aires de Herrera, in Santo Domingo Oeste, always with headphones on, and that habit gave him his stage name. His parents wanted him to study rather than sing.

«Herrera Family» and «J-Musicólogo»

He started out at twenty-one with the group «Herrera Family». When it broke up he formed the duo «J-Musicólogo» with a partner known as El J, and after the duo split he began working with Vladimir Muñoz of «Punto Music Group», who remains his manager.

Dembow and rap

At the end of 2015 he released «Wow que movie», and Mozart La Para and Shelow Shaq joined him for the remix. In 2017 he was nominated at the «Premios Soberano». «Limonada coco» came out in 2017, and its remix with Lápiz Conciente became one of his best-known songs; in October 2019 Major League Baseball used it for «We Play Loud», its postseason advertising campaign. In 2019 he also remixed «En filita» with Shadow Blow and La Insuperable, and in 2023 he appeared with Luigui Bleand on «Lo’ prieto». He has described himself in song as «la carne magra», lean meat with no fat.

«The Voice Dominicana»

When «The Voice Dominicana» launched on «Telesistema» in July 2021, he took one of the four coaching chairs, alongside the Spanish producer Juan Magan, Milly Quezada and the Venezuelan singer Nacho.

«El Jaguar»

«El Jaguar», released on 27 March 2026 through «Punto Music Group» and «Aparataje Music Group», grew out of a trip to Jamaica and mixes reggae with Latin rhythms across seven tracks. Santiago wrote the songs and devised the concept; the guests include Secreto “El Famoso Biberón”, and MelyMel is among the producers.

Legacy

Musicólogo the Libro moves between rap, which he learned first, and the dembow that made him popular, and he has worked with many of the leading names of the Dominican urban scene. His chair on «The Voice Dominicana» and the use of «Limonada coco» by Major League Baseball brought his work to television and sports audiences beyond the urban circuit.
