Biography
Rocío Crooke is a Dominican worship singer from Santo Domingo, born on September 8, whose recording career began in 2000 with the album Espíritu Santo. She has released six albums across a decade, working in a register unusual for the Dominican church at the time: worship carried on rhythm and blues rather than on the ballad or the congregational chorus.
Iglesia de Dios de la Profecía
Crooke is the daughter of Fermín Crooke and Ildelfonsa V. de Crooke, and the eldest of five siblings. She sang in churches from childhood, and her formation took place at the Iglesia de Dios de la Profecía in Santo Domingo, under Bishop Cecilio Ramírez.
Her role there went well beyond singing. She worked in the congregation's praise ministry and led both the Vida Juvenil youth teams and the altar service — the unglamorous infrastructure of church music that produces a great many singers and is almost never recorded anywhere. In 1999 she decided to formalise a singing ministry and begin recording.
The albums
Espíritu Santo appeared in 2000, ten tracks named for its first single. Jamás Te Dejaré followed in 2003 and En Ti Confiaré in 2005, both ten tracks; then Todo Habla De Ti in 2008 and No Es El Final in 2009, twelve each. Across those six years she recorded something over fifty songs.
The catalogue includes El No Te Abandonará, Quiero Ver Tu Gloria, Mi Copa Rebosa, El Rey Ya Viene, Prolóngame La Vida, Arte En Mi, Me Enamoré De Dios, Escudero Fiel and Al Modo Mío. Two carry English titles — All The Glory and True Love — which fits the R&B inflection running underneath the material.
The single Estoy Aquí came in 2016, and Fluye later. She has been nominated at Premios a Nuestra Música, Premios Viva in Guatemala, Premios la Conquista and Premios Presencia.
Later collaborations
Crooke has continued to appear as a guest voice. In 2023 she sang Danzando with Revelación Maranatha, recorded live as a merengue version — an unlikely pairing on paper, an R&B-rooted worship singer inside a Christian merengue orchestra, and a good illustration of how small and interconnected the Dominican Christian scene remains. She also features on Mujer Favorecida with Liliana Telfort.
