Biography
Solo Fernández is a Dominican alternative rock and indie pop band from Santo Domingo. Its current lineup comprises Gian Rojas on vocals and guitar, Freddy Navarro on bass and Ricardo Montilla on drums. The group incorporates synthesizers, electronic textures and dance rhythms, and won the 2024 Premio Soberano for Alternative Music.
From quartet to trio
The project's roots lie in «Pandora», a band Rojas and Navarro formed with Montilla and guitarist Surya Cabral in 2015. A scene profile in «Una isla es un universo» dates the emergence of Solo Fernández to June 2016. Its name grew out of a Facebook message mistakenly sent to the musicians: a fan of the Mexican group «Pandora» was complaining about a version of an Alejandro Fernández song. The comment became an inside joke and eventually the band's name. Cabral belonged to its early quartet lineup; reports from 2021 already describe the group as a trio.
Early recordings
In 2017 they released their self-titled EP, containing «Astro», «Sueños Plásticos» and «Viceversa». Their first studio album, «Multicolor», appeared in May 2019 with eight tracks, including «Control», «Lejos» and «Rompecabezas». That December they issued the twelve-track «Multicolor (Extendido)», adding songs such as «Verde» with Snenie.
Collaboration and community
Their live work has included «Isle of Light» and tours in Mexico. Since 2022 they have organized «SOLOFEST», bringing together local and international alternative acts. They also contributed to «Jardín de las Almas» by the Mexican band «Camilo Séptimo»: several tracks credit Gian Rojas and Freddy Navarro as co-writers and Solo Fernández as producer alongside other collaborators.
«Las Cosas Que Nunca Me Dije» and a new chapter
In 2024 they released their second album, the thirteen-track «Las Cosas Que Nunca Me Dije». It includes «Sin Mirar» with «CLUBZ», «Telescopio» with Alex Ferreira and «Azul» with «Noah Pino Palo». Other collaborations include «La Ruta Natural» with «Rubytates» and «Solo tú» with «DLi» and Martox. In January 2026 they announced their signing to «Point Records», and in March they opened for «The Killers» in Santo Domingo.
Legacy
Solo Fernández combines record-making, exchanges with musicians abroad and the creation of spaces for the Dominican alternative scene. «SOLOFEST» gives practical form to that collective approach, while the band's recordings extend its rock foundation through pop songwriting and electronic production.
