Biografía

Bullumba Landestoy was a Dominican musician born in 1925 in La Romana whose career touched bolero, classical music, and the broader tropical tradition in ways that made him a beloved and respected figure across several generations of Dominican music lovers. La Romana, a city on the southeastern coast associated with sugar culture and a rich Afro-Caribbean heritage, shaped Landestoy's musical foundations, giving him an intuitive connection to the rhythmic and melodic vocabulary of Caribbean popular music.

Over a long career he demonstrated a versatility that allowed him to work comfortably within formal classical settings as well as the more intimate emotional world of the bolero. His contributions to Dominican musical life were recognized by peers and audiences alike, and he lived to see the music he had helped shape continue to evolve around him. Landestoy passed away in 2018 at the age of ninety-three, one of the last living links to the golden era of Dominican tropical and bolero music.
