Brettón, the professional name of Emmanuel Bretón, is a Dominican singer, songwriter and producer born on June 25, 1981, and originally from Santiago de los Caballeros. His music brings pop, rock and romantic ballads into a songwriting practice concerned with relationships and personal change. He also works in graphic design, photography and audiovisual production.
Music in Santiago
Raised in a family of musicians and educators, he began exploring music in childhood. His early work included Santiago projects such as «Plasma» and «Punto G». In 2018 Centro León documented his performance in its Patio Caribeño, where he sang original pieces including «Momentos compartidos», «Transparente» and «Tu nombre» with other local musicians. He also contributed to recordings by Pat Pereyra, including her production «Mestura».
From «Contraluz» to a full-length album
His 2018 EP «Contraluz» contained five self-written songs produced by José Luis Freitas. In May 2021 he introduced his first full-length album, «Todo un Universo por Vivir», developed with Freitas for «Fundación Revolución Sonora». Its collaborators included Pat Pereyra, Sabrina Estepan, Janio Lora and Addy Núñez. The project includes «A Contraluz» with Sabrina Estepan, «Ruinas» with Pat Pereyra, «Mala suerte» and «La piel que nos creamos».
Songs and their images
Speaking to LAUD in 2022, he described making the album as a process of learning to trust his singing and compositions. His visual work forms another part of that practice: he has directed, written and edited his own videos, including «Nuestro amor», filmed in Bogotá. In 2024 he joined Rose Mateo on «Deseándonos ir», a ballad about a couple choosing to separate.
A further recording project
In 2025 he released «Caso perdido» and «Qué bonito lo bonito» as previews of a new recording project. His own biography identifies both as self-written and self-produced. These songs continue his interest in intimate relationships, using arrangements that move between ballad and pop rock.
Legacy
His career connects Santiago's local music scene with independent recording and visual production. His collaborations and releases bring songwriting, performance and image-making together within a single artistic practice.
