Biography
Janio Lora, whose personal name is Janio Lora Félix, is a Dominican singer-songwriter associated with Santo Domingo. The son of journalist and composer Huchi Lora, he brings rock and blues into conversation with bachata, merengue and Caribbean songwriting. He combines his music career with work in advertising creative direction.
From rock to Dominican song
His Bandcamp catalog dates «Ahora Mismo» to 2008 and «Rock 'N' Ron» to 2011. The latter contains twelve tracks, including «Carla Cranberry», «Graciela» and «Despierta», and credits Allan Leschhörn with production, recording and mixing. He released «Finding Demo» in 2013.
«Mi Nueva Edad»
In 2015 he presented «Mi Nueva Edad», produced by Pablo Dacal, bringing together his own compositions and songs from the Dominican repertoire. The album includes «Colmado» with Xiomara Fortuna, «Las Vueltas de la Suerte» with Víctor Víctor and «Confundidos» with Rafael Solano. Its single «Viene y Va» grew out of music he wrote for «Las Medidas de la Brisa», choreographer Marianela Boán's work inspired by the poetry of José Lezama Lima.
Caribbean collaborations and family recording
«Aentro», dated 2018 on his Bandcamp and produced by Isaac Hernández, continued his exploration of Caribbean rhythms. His repertoire from this period includes «Chúbale» with Vakeró and «Al Son de la Calavera» with Alex Ferreira. In December 2024 he released «El Concón», a merengue written with his father, who composed its music. The recording features El Prodigio on accordion, with arrangements and production by Jochy Sánchez.
Legacy
His work connects the singer-songwriter tradition with Dominican rock and the island's traditional musical forms. Exchanges between generations have taken recorded form throughout his career, from the collaborations on «Mi Nueva Edad» to the music he made with his father on «El Concón».
