Biography
Chanel Novas, born January 21, 1995 in San Francisco de Macorís, is a Dominican worship singer and songwriter. She was named Artist of the Year at Premios El Galardón in 2022, two years after taking song of the year there for Se Acerca Un Milagro, and her recordings have circulated widely across Latin America. She records for MDG Music Group.
San Francisco de Macorís
Novas is the daughter of Bartolo Novas and Nieves María Lizardo, and has said her interest in music was already evident at four. She built a band around herself from 2011 — Richard Lorenzo Jorge on drums, Bienvenido Modesta Astacio on piano and Eudy Francisco González Figueroa on bass, with Ronny Beltre Mejía added on guitar in 2018 — a lineup that has stayed largely intact across her catalogue.
In 2014 she placed second in two televised competitions: Artista de mi Barrio, a segment of the programme Más Roberto, and Mi Voz Para Cristo on Canal 2. Neither win was outright, and both put her in front of a national audience for the first time.
The songs
Me Multiplicaré, released in 2017, was the recording that carried her beyond the Dominican Republic. Se Acerca Un Milagro followed in 2020 and was a considerable success, taking song of the year at El Galardón. Reverdecerás, recorded with the Puerto Rican singer Nimsy López, matched it in 2022 and gave its name to a concert at the Iglesia Tabernáculo de Adoración that March, with Rosa Karina, Freisis Frías and the Colombian Domínico González among the guests.
She has described Reverdecerás as marking a new period in her work — a call, in her words, for listeners to take up abandoned projects and understand that their purpose need not die. Dominicana followed, recorded with Marcos Yaroide, Matty Martínez, Rosa Karina and Johan Paulino.
Recent work
Tu Eres Dios arrived in February 2025, recorded with Ingrid Rosario and produced by Ángelo Frilop of Barak. The song was written by Eurys González, who has accompanied her career since 2009 and serves as executive producer alongside MDG Music Group.
El Dios de Mi Vida, released in 2026, was recorded with Nehemías González. Her most recent full production is Mi Ofrenda Live. She was named solo Christian singer of the year at the 2024 Premios La Flor.
Place in the scene
Novas belongs to the generation of Dominican worship artists who came up through television competition rather than the church circuit alone, and who record inside a professional apparatus that did not exist for their predecessors — a label, an executive producer, a fixed band, an international production. The Frilop connection places her within the same working network as much of the country's contemporary worship output.
Her origins in San Francisco de Macorís also matter. The Dominican Christian music industry is concentrated in Santo Domingo and Santiago, and few artists reach this scale from the Cibao interior.
