Biography
Rosa Karina, born February 18, 1987 in Santo Domingo, is a Dominican singer, songwriter, preacher and comedian. She has won Female Singer of the Year at Premios El Galardón three times across more than a decade, took three awards there in 2025 including a career recognition, and runs her own label, ministry, podcast and comedy characters alongside the music.
La Rondalla
Her musical formation began in 2003 in La Rondalla, the popular-music ensemble of the Universidad Autónoma de Santo Domingo, where she developed as a singer before leaving to work in Christian music. She began her professional career in the genre in 2008.
The albums
Her first recorded song, Tú Eres Mi Hijo, appeared in 2010 and belonged to Mi Abogado, released in 2011. The album's title track won Song of the Year at Premios El Galardón and earned her a Premios Soberano nomination as a Christian music singer. Se Necesita Uno Que Sueñe followed in 2012 and Sin Retorno in 2015.
Único Dios arrived in 2020, the first album issued through RoKa Music, the organisation she uses to manage her own projects. Two songs from it stand out: La Congregación, built on the parable of the Pharisee and the tax collector and pointed squarely at superficial religion and the absence of love for one's neighbour, and Oramos, released during the pandemic. Since 2023 she has been working toward a fifth album, Lo Que el Espíritu Diga, releasing Jehová, Vimos Su Gloria, Muévete, Cerraré Los Cielos and Los Que Vieron along the way.
Awards
Rosa Karina won Song of the Year at El Galardón in 2011 and Female Singer in 2014 and again in 2016. She was nominated as Religious Artist of the Year at the 2014 Premios Soberano. In 2025 she took three El Galardón awards at once — Female Singer of the Year, Video of the Year for Muévete with Matty Martínez, and a recognition for fifteen years of work.
Collaborations and stages
She has recorded with Marcos Yaroide, Isabelle Valdez, Cales Louima and Natan El Profeta. In 2017 she shared a bill in Puerto Rico with Alex Zurdo and Tercer Cielo among others, and in 2018 joined the Guatemalan group Miel San Marcos on the Dominican leg of their Pentecostés tour, later hosting that year's Premios El Galardón on television.
In August 2019 she took part in Espíritu Libre, the first urban musical staged in the Dominican Republic, alongside Natan El Profeta and Rubinsky RBK, in a production organised by El Philippe of Aposento Alto. In 2024, after two years away, she returned to the Concentración Evangélica Nacional at the Estadio Olímpico Félix Sánchez in front of sixty thousand people, and marked fifteen years with the concert Lo Que el Espíritu Diga. In 2025 she cut a live version of Tú Eres Mi Hijo with Cales Louima. She has also appeared with Chanel Novas on Dominicana and at the Reverdecerás concert.
Beyond the records
Rosa Karina has built an unusually wide public practice around the music. Curvas Preciosas is her ministry for women, working on depression, resentment and damaging relationships with a team that includes pastors, counsellors, psychologists, nutritionists and trainers. Mundo para Dos, recorded in 2022 with the architect Andy Zapata, became a conference on marriage.
She has judged vocal talent on The Chosen in 2022 and has sat on the panel of Pequeños Grandes Talentos, the children's competition on Color Visión, every year since 2023. Her Instagram segment El Rebulú de Doña Rosa became El Rebulú Podcast, and under the characters Perfectina y Prudelina she performs comedy sketches carrying the same teaching.
