El Rubio Acordeón — Enmanuel García Batista, from La Peña in Duarte — is a Dominican merengue típico accordionist, singer and composer. He came out of the countryside and off the internet at the same time, and by 2024 he had a Soberano and a gold record.

Early years and formation

He was raised by his grandparents in the countryside at Loma de Amacey, working cacao to help keep the household going. He tried urban music first and concluded he had no real chance in it, so he went to the maestro Lupe Valerio and learned the accordion properly.

The name came from the crowd. At the small unbilled parties people started calling him El Rubito, and he took it and made it the act.

Going viral

He is the típico artist the streaming era produced. The records went to the top of the YouTube, Apple Music and Spotify lists rather than through radio first, and Cuéntale, which he wrote himself, is the one that travelled furthest.

In 2024 he took El Rubio & Sus Amigos to the United Palace in New York and sold it out, with Fefita la Grande, El Chaval de la Bachata, Joe Veras, Krisspy, Chimbala, Chicho Severino, El Grupo D’Ahora, Jomar Rodríguez and Geni Swing on the bill. Lawrence sold out too.

The Soberano and the gold record

Acroarte gave him revelation of the year at the Premios Soberano on 12 March 2024. Later that year El Abogado, the song everyone calls Mariela, was certified gold by the RIAA with Saleta Group — a gold record for merengue típico, which is not a sentence the genre gets to write often. He was nominated for típico ensemble of the year in 2025.

He writes, and not only for himself. La Propuesta he wrote with Ozuna on it; 10 Muchacho he made with Chimbala and DJ Adoni; Le Saqué Los Pies is his as well. Guayando he cut with Fulanito, Una Noche with El Blachy, Latidos with Enyer Acordeón and Te Mentiría with Dalexis.
