Biography
Génesis Colón is a Dominican worship singer and songwriter from Los Alcarrizos who turned professional at the end of 2023 and reached a national audience within a year. Rompan el Techo, released in October 2024, was an enormous success. She was twenty-one when it broke.
Los Alcarrizos
Colón grew up in a household of Christian parents and has said she was always involved in church activity and sang in the choir, recognising over time what she could do with her voice. She began working professionally in music at the end of 2023.
Her first single, El Proceso, is the one she calls her baby. It was written about the difficulties that arrive in everyone's life, and it found its audience on TikTok, where listeners who recognised themselves in it began posting it themselves. In her own account, the song's lesson is not that the hardship is absent but that something holds you inside it. Two versions of it on her channel — an acoustic reading and a live performance — have together reached an audience on the scale of Rompan el Techo itself.
Rompan el Techo
The song that made her name has an unusually well documented origin. It began with a period of prayer by David Lewis, her mentor, in Panama on February 16, 2024. On March 4 the production team at Altar Music started shaping it, and later Rafael Tejeda, also of Altar Music, concluded it needed a different chorus, which was rewritten at a subsequent writing camp.
The lyric takes the paralytic of Mark's gospel, carried by friends who opened a roof to lower him in front of Jesus. Colón's reading shifts the focus: the friends are usually the ones discussed, but she treats the paralytic himself as the protagonist, someone who after long enough in that condition might well have been without hope. Every detail of the song, she has said, is grounded in the Bible.
The title acquired a second meaning before release. After the writing camp Colón received news that shook her badly; she withdrew to a room, and Naomi Almonte came in, then the rest of the team, and David Lewis began to pray. As she put it, they started breaking the roof for her.
Released on October 7, 2024, the song was taken up almost at once, reaching the top ten of the platform's music trends within a fortnight. The recording was made live at the Altar Conference in the Dominican Republic that August, and is credited to David Lewis, Rafael Tejada and Colón.
Entre Mis Notas
Her current project is the EP Entre Mis Notas, released track by track through 2026: Pude Volver first, then Integridad. An accompanying live event, billed as the EMNEP Experience, was scheduled in the Dominican Republic for September.
Her YouTube channel carries only twenty-nine videos, a strikingly small body of work for the reach it has had. She works with Grupo Grace, whom she credits as her leaders and as the producers of her online output, and records through Altar Music.
