Biography

Ronald Tambora is a Dominican merengue típico percussionist, a member of El Grupaso and, before it, of Urbanda for fourteen years. His father was also a percussionist, and Ronald has said he grew up going along to his father's hotel gigs as a child, dancing for the tourists' tips, and that the atmosphere of those shows was what drew him into the music.

In October 2025 he left Urbanda together with the singer Jorge Lewis and the accordionist Julio Swing to form El Grupaso. He has argued that Santo Domingo has become as strong a market for the group as the Cibao, the region traditionally identified with típico, saying that audiences there sing every song in the set rather than waiting for the hits.
