Biography
Angelito Villalona is a Dominican singer, composer, producer and preacher. He came up inside one of the most influential families in Dominican music, spent years singing in his brother’s orchestra, and has worked in Christian music for more than twenty-five years.
The family
The Villalonas are from Loma de Cabrera, in Dajabón. He is the brother of Fernando Villalona, and of Aramis Villalona.
In the orchestra
He sang with Fernando’s orchestra through the eighties, on choruses and on lead. The archive footage names him: Dónde Estás Corazón on El Show del Mediodía in 1985, and Un Sorbito de Champagne from the same stretch. In 1988 he and Aramis were billed together, as Angelito Villalona y Aramis Villalona y Orquesta, on the Caribe Show at RTVD.
He toured the country and abroad on the back of his brother’s name, which is the ordinary shape of a career inside a family orchestra and the part that usually goes unrecorded.
The ministry
He describes himself as a servant of Christ before he describes himself as an artist, and he works in song and in preaching together. He composes, produces and writes as well as singing, and the ministry has run for more than twenty-five years — long enough that it, and not the orchestra, is now the body of the work.
