Biography
Juan Daniel Montero, known on social media as Juan Daniel Bass, is a Dominican bassist and arranger active in merengue, tropical music, and studio work. He made his stage debut at twelve alongside Milly Quezada, currently works with Eddy Herrera, and is credited as one of the producers of Eddy Herrera's Latin Grammy-winning album «Novato Apostador» (2025).
Training and early career
In a 2026 interview with Junior Cabrera about the new generation of Dominican bassists, Montero and his fellow bassists Joel Nova and William spoke about their early influences in church and family, their move from percussion to bass, how they learned scales, and their first stage experiences, including Montero's debut at twelve with Milly Quezada. The three describe themselves as the generation that followed Isaías Leclerc.
Session work and arranging
He has worked with Milly Quezada, Eddy Herrera, and the group Sexappeal, works on productions directed by Henry Jiménez, accompanied Ramón Orlando at «Hasta la Tambora» in January 2026, and records bass parts from his home studio for producers in the Dominican Republic and abroad, among them projects for a singer based in Moscow and material for Venezuela. As an arranger, he produced two arrangements on «Novato Apostador» and later arranged Eddy Herrera's duet with Miriam Cruz, and says Herrera has trusted him with his last three productions.
Latin Grammy
«Novato Apostador» was nominated for the 2025 Latin Grammy for Best Merengue/Bachata Album in September and won the award in November. Press coverage lists Montero among its producers together with Manuel Tejada, Junior Cabrera, Edwin García, Moisés Sánchez, and Antonio González.
Legacy
Montero belongs to a group of young Dominican bassists who carry the rhythmic weight of merengue on the country's main stages, and his arranging credits on a Latin Grammy-winning album extend his work beyond the bass.
