Biography

Negros is a Dominican bachata quartet formed in Santo Domingo in late 2001 under producer Cholo Brenes and his company CB Producciones, built around the songwriting of Wason Brazobán alongside Joel Silverio, Kelvin Jiménez and Tommy Jiménez.

A self-titled debut and four Casandra Awards

Signed to the New York-based label Premium Latin Music — also home to Aventura and Elvis Martínez — Negros released their self-titled debut album in 2003. It swept the 2004 Premios Casandra, winning Revelación del Año, Mejor Álbum del Año, Canción del Año for «Así Te Amo» and Compositor del Año for Brazobán, and remains one of the most awarded debuts in Dominican bachata.

Later albums and a songwriter's reach

«Sin Fecha de Vencimiento» followed on Premium Latin Music in 2005, and «Armadura de Rosas» in 2007, led by the single «Con las Manos Vacías». Beyond the group, Brazobán's songs were picked up by other artists, among them Monchy & Alexandra and Los Toros Band, extending the quartet's reach well past its own catalogue.

On stage

Negros played the United Palace in New York and filled Altos de Chavón in La Romana, and in 2004 received the Key to the City of Lynn, Massachusetts, during a promotional tour. Brazobán went on to a prominent solo career as both performer and songwriter, carrying the group's songwriting legacy forward.
