Biography

Derick Daniel Pérez Cordero, who records as Derick Music, is a Dominican Christian urban artist and composer, born December 7, 2005. He is the grandson of four pastors and was raised in the church, and he writes for established artists as well as releasing his own material.

Writing for others

The composing is the most solid part of his work. He was still nineteen when the Dominican press described him as writing for established artists, which places him on both sides of a scene that usually documents only its performers. He has recorded and shared stages with Natan El Profeta, Ander Bock, Lizzy Parra, Alex Linares and Jeiby.

Recordings

His own repertoire includes Desde Cero, No Me He Quitado, Dios No Sabe Fallar, Salmos 84, Abba, En Tu Casa, Por Qué A Mí and Gracias. Voy Seguro followed in 2024. He appears as a guest on YO NO ME QUITO, from the EP RELIGIOFF, on SHIELD from Ander Bock’s EP ANDERRATED 2, and on Oro por Ti with Gregory Joseph.

Me Ahogo, the central track of his most recent EP, deals with anxiety, depression and mental exhaustion — subject matter that Dominican worship music has generally left alone.

A closed door at home

He has been unusually direct about the obstacle in front of him: that churches in the Dominican Republic are largely closed to new talent, and that his music has met more resistance from traditional Christian sectors at home than it has abroad. He has performed in Mexico, Puerto Rico and Central America, and it is outside the country that the work has been received most openly.
