Biography

Lizzy Parra — Lisbet Margarita Plata Parra, born 22 July 1995 — is a Dominican Christian rapper, songwriter and author. The scene calls her La Pastora, and the name came from the work rather than from the persona: she was a youth leader in her congregation before she was a recording artist, and she studied at the Assemblies of God Bible Institute. She has since become one in practice, and the ministry now takes up as much of her time as the music.

La Asamblea

She began in 2010 inside an urban group called La Asamblea, and went out on her own in 2013 with Esperar en Ti. In March 2014 she co-founded Team Sobre La Roca with other urban ministers: a collective and festival that gave Dominican Christian urban music somewhere to gather, which until then it did not have.

The albums

Esperar en Ti in 2013; Te Reto in 2016, nominated for best urban album at the Premios El Galardón; the EP 95 in 2019; Hope in 2020, with Manny Montes, Funky and Musiko; Carácter in 2021, which carries Quiébrame and Paz Perfecta; the EPs Ekklesia and Cielo, the latter with Angel Brown, in 2022; and Menos Es Más in 2023. Respira and its remix followed in 2025.

She was named urban artist of the year at the Premios El Galardón in two consecutive years. Por Un Like, cut with Redimi2 and Angel Brown, is the record that made her widely known. She has also recorded with Alex Zurdo and with Rubinsky RBK.

Writing for other people

She is registered as a writer on Ander Bock’s Pa Que Caiga, credited under her legal name. The credit says something: it puts her on the other side of a scene that mostly documents its performers, and it is the part of her work least visible from the outside.

Beyond the records

The music is not all of it. In 2020 she acted in the play Red de Sangre, which won a prize for best theatrical piece, and in 2022 she published a book, Un Libro Para Cansados. A second, Lidera el Ahora, came out through Renacer Editorial and argues that the perfect moment does not exist but the present one does. She paints, she has worked in film, and she runs an interview programme called Hablemos.

La Pastora

More than fifteen years of ministry sit behind the name — evangelism, youth discipleship, camps, and the Vida Joven ministry. She now teaches a course in Christian ministry at the IBNC. Few Dominican artists work in this many forms at once, and fewer still keep the pulpit and the catalogue running side by side.
