Biography

Redimi2, born Roberto Dotel in 1979 in Santo Domingo, is widely regarded as one of the most important figures in Christian rap in Latin America. His name — a play on redeemed — reflects the central conviction of his artistry: that hip-hop can be a vehicle not just for personal expression but for spiritual transformation. Growing up in Santo Domingo, he found in rap a language that spoke to the realities of urban youth, and after his own conversion he began channeling that language toward a message of faith and redemption.

His music blends the sonic vocabulary of Dominican urban culture — dembow rhythms, Caribbean percussion, hip-hop production — with explicitly Christian lyrics, creating a sound that is simultaneously street-credible and spiritually grounded. Redimi2 has released numerous albums and collaborated with artists across the spectrum of Christian and secular Latin music, and his concerts draw enormous crowds of young fans who find in his music both entertainment and meaning.

He is credited with almost single-handedly establishing Christian rap as a viable genre in the Spanish-speaking Caribbean, and his influence has extended far beyond the Dominican Republic to shape Christian urban music across Latin America and the Hispanic United States.
