Biography

Ezequiel Ponciano is a Dominican bassist, songwriter, producer and musical director who founded and leads the Christian worship group Kabed. His work combines the group's live ministry with songwriting, recording production and bass performance.

Formation of Kabed

Born in Santo Domingo, Ponciano developed his musical work at the Tabernáculo de Adoración church in Santo Domingo Este. In 2015 he began Kabed with his wife, singer Yuleisy Canela, and vocalists Amaury Hernández and Karen Ponciano. Pianist Abdiel Medina and drummer Lizmike Liriano joined the founding lineup. The group made its first official appearance on 25 January 2016 at the Somos 1 youth convention and released its debut single, «Inúndanos», that May.

Writing and production

Ponciano and Amaury Hernández wrote Kabed's 2020 song «Cantaremos Victoria». He is credited alongside Yuleisy Canela and Junior Ponciano as a writer of «A Donde Huiré», whose official video appeared in 2021. Kabed's official credits name him as the composer, producer and bassist of «Sopla», led vocally by Yuleisy Canela with guest singer Laila Olivera. He continued producing for the group, including its 2025 recording «Uso Honorable».

Work beyond the group

He produced «Tuyo Soy» (2021) for Adonis D'León and shared production duties with Esencia Records on Marizi Martínez's «Espíritu Santo Consolador» (2023), on which he also played bass. Kabed's own biography describes Ponciano and Canela as a songwriting and production partnership.

Legacy

Ponciano's documented role connects Kabed's first lineup in Santo Domingo Este with its later recordings: he has remained its leader while contributing as a bassist, writer and producer. The group's 2017 El Galardón award for Revelation of the Year and its continuing releases mark the reach of that collaboration.
