Biography
Sr. Pérez — Franklin Pérez de los Santos — is a Dominican rapper, beatmaker and producer. He founded Aposento Alto, the group that defined Dominican Christian rap, and he has since founded three more: Tres16, La República and Clap Jey.
The one who started it
Aposento Alto is listed as a group of six, and it was: Natan El Profeta, El Philippe, La Noe Aposento Alto, Lors El Prieto, Vizkel and Pérez. But the group was his — he assembled it, and he led it. Its debut, A Precio de Sangre, ran to nineteen tracks and carried Jala, the single that made the group known.
He produced much of that work himself at LP Studio, alongside the producer Bless Guy. The studio initials are still in the name he uses online.
The beats
He describes himself first as a beatmaker, and that is the part of his work with the longest reach. He produced Sigo Contento for Profeta Lirical at LP Studio in 2015, and the sound of the first Aposento Alto records is his. In a genre documented almost entirely through voices, he is one of the few figures whose contribution was the track underneath.
Solo
His own catalogue began in 2019 with Celebra Conmigo and Cambio de Planes. Irreversible, Para Siempre Tú and Sigo followed in 2020; Fuego, Mártires, No Me Dejes Caer and Otro Año Más in 2021; Escrito Con Sangre and a remix of Irreversible in 2022; and Juntos Al Altar in 2024. He has put his own reason for the work plainly: rap for souls, out of passion and out of respect.
